Royal Family Celebrates Easter: A Focus on Attendance and Absences
On Sunday morning, the annual Easter Mattins service took place at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, drawing members of the British royal family. While King Charles III and Queen Camilla graced the occasion with their presence, alongside other royals such as Prince Edward, Princess Anne, and Sarah Ferguson, the Prince and Princess of Wales were notably absent. This marks the second year in a row that Prince William and Kate Middleton have skipped the event. Their absence this time has not been officially explained, though last year it coincided with Kate's cancer diagnosis and treatment.
King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived elegantly dressed for the service. The monarch opted for a dark-blue suit paired with a light-blue tie and matching handkerchief, while Queen Camilla wore a baby-blue coat dress complemented by a coordinating hat. Other attendees included Prince Andrew, who continues to participate in family events despite stepping down from official duties in 2022.
In contrast, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their three children did not make an appearance at the service. Although no public reason was given for their absence, it follows a pattern established last year when Kate underwent preventative chemotherapy after being diagnosed with cancer. Since then, she announced her remission in January and expressed optimism about the future in a recent statement shared online.
