Rivian Recalls 19,641 R1 Models Over Rear Suspension Issue

Instructions

Rivian has initiated a recall affecting a substantial number of its R1S SUVs and R1T pickup trucks. This action addresses a critical safety concern related to the rear suspension system, specifically the toe link joint, which may have been improperly reassembled during previous service appointments. Approximately 19,641 vehicles, including both R1S and R1T models, from the 2022 to 2025 model years, are part of this recall. The defect could potentially lead to the toe link separating, significantly increasing the likelihood of an accident. Rivian has acknowledged one incident involving a single-vehicle crash with minor injuries believed to be associated with this defect.

The affected vehicles underwent rear suspension servicing between April 1, 2022, and March 10, 2025. During this period, Rivian utilized an outdated service protocol for disassembling and reassembling the rear suspension's toe link joint. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) documents highlight that this older method might result in the toe link detaching from the vehicle, posing a serious safety hazard. The recall encompasses 7,031 R1S SUVs and 12,610 R1T pickups, all of which fall within the specified service window.

The company plans to rectify the problem by replacing any potentially compromised rear toe links, utilizing an updated and safer service procedure. Rivian is committed to ensuring the safety of its customers and will begin notifying owners of the recall on February 24, 2026. At that time, the Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) of the affected vehicles will become searchable, allowing owners to verify if their vehicle is included in this recall. Owners are advised to promptly address this issue once notified to prevent potential safety risks on the road.

This widespread recall underscores the importance of stringent quality control in vehicle manufacturing and servicing. While Rivian has identified the root cause in an outdated service procedure, the incident serves as a reminder for all vehicle owners to heed recall notices promptly. The company's proactive steps to correct the defect and prevent further incidents demonstrate its commitment to customer safety and product integrity. Affected owners should prepare to have their vehicles inspected and repaired as soon as the notification process begins in early 2026.
