Former Sotheby's chief executive Tad Smith is significantly increasing his involvement in the digital collectibles space by agreeing to purchase most of Candy Digital's assets.
Smith, who also chairs Doodles, announced his plan to become Candy Digital's CEO once the acquisition is finalized. This move comes at a critical time for Candy Digital, which launched in 2021 during the peak of interest in non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Despite initial success with major partnerships and a user base of 1.5 million, the NFT market experienced a sharp decline in 2022.
